Overview
Campaigns is currently in beta and is only available to select people. Apollo automatically enrolls users as the feature becomes available.
Campaigns are one-time, high-volume emails sent to large audiences of opted-in subscribers. Use campaigns for newsletters, product announcements, event invitations, promotions, and other one-to-many marketing communications.
Campaigns send marketing emails using your own authenticated sending domain, not a connected Gmail or Outlook mailbox. Keeping marketing sends separate from your sales mailboxes protects your sales outreach from deliverability issues caused by high-volume sending, and keeps campaign activity separate from your sequences workflow.
How It Works
A campaign moves through four stages. First, you authenticate a marketing sending domain so mailbox providers trust your email, and verify a sender identity that controls the name and address recipients see.
Next, you build your audience by importing opted-in subscribers and grouping them into subscriber lists, while Apollo tracks each subscriber's status to determine whether they're eligible to receive a campaign.
Then you create and design the campaign, choosing the audience, exclusions, sender, and send time. Finally, you launch, and Apollo sends the email to every eligible recipient at once and reports on the results. Because campaigns use a dedicated marketing domain rather than your sales mailboxes, marketing sends and sales outreach never compete for the same sender reputation.
What You Can Do
Match your goal to the best action to start building and sending campaigns.
| Your Goal | Best Action |
|---|---|
| Send marketing email from your own domain. | Set up a marketing domain to authenticate your sending domain and protect your sender reputation before your first send. |
| Build a targeted audience of opted-in contacts. | Create a subscriber list to import subscribers and group them into the audiences you want to reach. |
| Design and send a one-to-many marketing email. | Create and launch a campaign to choose your audience, design your email, select a sender, and schedule the send. |
| Send personalized one-to-one sales outreach instead. | Use sequences to reach prospects individually on a cadence from your connected sales mailbox. |

| Why do campaigns use a dedicated marketing domain? | Why should I use a subdomain for marketing campaigns? | |
How are campaigns different from sequences?
Campaigns send one marketing email to a defined audience of opted-in subscribers through your authenticated marketing domain. Sequences deliver personalized, cadence-based sales outreach from your connected Gmail or Outlook mailboxes. Use campaigns for one-to-many marketing and sequences for one-to-one sales outreach.
Can the same contact be used in sequences and campaigns?
Yes. Campaigns and sequences use the same underlying contact data, but Apollo manages marketing subscription status separately. Only include contacts who opted in to your marketing emails in your campaigns. You can also exclude contacts who are active in a sequence from a campaign.
What happens when a subscriber unsubscribes?
Apollo changes the email address to Unsubscribed and automatically excludes it from future campaigns.
Why do campaigns use a dedicated marketing domain?
Campaigns can send much larger email volumes than sales mailboxes. A dedicated marketing domain keeps campaign activity separate from your sales outreach and reduces the risk that a marketing deliverability issue affects your team's connected mailboxes.
Why should I use a subdomain for campaigns?
A subdomain separates your marketing sender reputation from your primary business domain. If a campaign receives an unusual number of bounces or spam complaints, this separation helps protect your website, corporate email, and sales outreach.
