Email Statuses
The following table describes each email status and its credit impact:
| Status | What It Means | Credit Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | A fully confirmed, valid email address. When you request a verified email, Apollo saves the data to your account. Verified emails include addresses that Apollo has verified after you or your team manually edited or uploaded them. Learn more about how Apollo verifies emails. | A verified email costs 1 email credit per contact. If an Apollo-verified email bounces within 30 days of purchase, Apollo automatically refunds the credit. |
| Unverified | An email address that Apollo couldn't verify or that Apollo has low confidence in. This status can also apply to addresses that you or your team manually edited, imported from a CSV, synced from a CRM, or created through the Apollo API. Sending to unverified addresses can increase your bounce risk. You can use enrichment to try to find updated email data for the contact. | Uploading or editing an email address doesn't cost a credit. Apollo charges 1 credit when you ask Apollo to verify an amended unverified email. |
| Update required | A business email address for which Apollo has newer information, typically because the contact changed jobs. This status only applies to saved contacts. Learn how to enrich contacts with job changes. | Apollo charges 1 credit for each available contact update you request. |
| Unavailable | An email address that Apollo can't find or verify. Apollo may also assign this status when you import a contact without an email address through a CRM integration or CSV file. You can use enrichment to try to find current contact data. | Apollo doesn't charge an email credit for a contact without a known, valid email address. |
| User-managed | An email address that you or your team uploaded from a CRM, imported from a CSV, or manually edited in Apollo. If you enable user-managed emails, Apollo displays the addresses your team added or edited. | Apollo doesn't charge an email credit for a user-managed email unless you choose to verify or enrich it. |
| Catch-all | An email address associated with a domain configured to accept messages sent to any address at that domain, even when the individual address might not exist. When prospecting, you can choose whether to include catch-all emails in your results. Learn more about catch-all emails and Apollo's verification process. | A catch-all email verified by Apollo costs 1 email credit per contact. |
